The training was made possible through Nuffic and involved the training of 20 MSc. students and academic staff at Kafr El Sheikh University in the Delta on saline agriculture and water management. The training focussed on the cycle from pre-harvest to post-harvest in agricultural land affected by sodium and other minerals, with hydrological training running from basic hydrology and fieldwork to more advanced hydrological analysis and water management practices. Subjects included unsaturated zone hydrology, sodium precipitation via unsaturated soil processes to groundwater, infiltration testing and soil sampling, to the analysis of this data for two saline-affected test fields on campus and at the Northern coastline.
